Things to do.
Letās start with BROADWAY SHOWS. A must visit place of NYC. Very easy to see and check the ticket reservations. Not a big deal if you find it expensive; many websites sell discounted tickets- grabs them.
Now come, Central Park and the Brooklyn Bridge. Itās Park and not Perk; I know what you thinking- F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Take the blissful experience over the Brooklyn Bridge and take a look at New York skyline and harbor- A bit long but, worth a shot.
And yes- things ARE free in New York. Wanna look around and see the HUMANS OF NYC? Just meander in the Central Park and you will enjoy the walk there. You can spend hours for free there; reality check- itās spread across 40 blocks! Kids love the Zoo there; while adults enjoy cycling and walking. Wollman Rink makes for a magical spin around the ice in wintertime, and the Delacorte Theater hosts the Shakespeare in the Park series in the summer.
Metropolitan Museum of Art– The of the finest and foremost collections of the world, Metropolitan Museum of Art brags about early 20th century portraits and sculptures to the steel mastery of Frank Stella. Itās free on Friday- lucky we. And yes pretty too expansive, so we can wander for much longer hours.
Other Museums- from Natural History Museum to the MoMA, and Guggenheim- three of the best museums are worth visiting.
How can we forget- Empire State Building? Love heights; even if you do not, go and have a birdās eye view of the city from one of the tallest buildings in the world. Day and Night- both scenes are worth a shot.
And the one which we call as Statue of Liberty; that tall, green, and crowned statue which stands for American freedom and steadfast spirit. Pretty good experience to be taken at least for once in NYC.
Shopping
For summers, just check out Union Square farmers market. Its Fridays are the best. So are Mondays, Wednesday and Saturdays.
The all-time favorite- H&M,The GAP and JCrew. Thereās also an awesome Wholefoods supermarket in the Time Warner Center, with seating and even a microwave. Perfect for lunch or supplies for a picnic in Central Park (and for a clean toilet near Central Park!).
Love discounted prices? Go to markets and shops near World Trade Centre. You will get good designer labels at low price.
Stay
Living in NYC would bother you initially. Manhattan is crazily expensive; you can prefer Queens or Brooklyn. Even a budgeted hotel tariff would be around $100-150 to get a clean room with attached bathroom. That too is on the low end.
Dorms are available from $30-50 and private double rooms for $100 per night.
Since rents are so high in NYC, some try to get sublets through their friends or through FB or sites. Itās a pretty cheaper option much used by the visitors.
Food
If you happen to visit NYC and looking for cheap eat outs and budget restaurants, there are numerous suggestions and reports by the food bloggers. An āon the goā food eating habit has escalated the presence of Food carts or trucks. They serve some of the best things of NYC. Using their websites, you can easily track them. They are takeaways as well as food deliverers.
If you like beer then you can take a free tour at the Brooklyn Brewery every weekend. Tours run every half-hour from 1pmā5pm and they have a bar where you can sample the produce after ā with beers for $5 each or five for $20. Or on Monday to Thursday they run small-group tours at 5pm for $10, including four tasting samples.
Regarding restaurants, city serves you anything- from global to local. From whiskey to hot brewing coffee to exquisite seafood to chocolates of the word- NYC gets you everything. Gastropubs reaching new heights of creativity and ambience, bars are a big turn on of NYC.
Prosperity Dumplings (46 Eldridge St), Mizu Sushi (29 E 20th St), 5 Napkin Burger (630 9th Ave), Nobu New York (105 Hudson St), Chelsea Market (75 9th Ave) are some of the most recommended places to visit and eat out at in NYC.
Local transport
The best way to travel around is subway. It runs 24*7. You can have your metro card as well. Whether high culture or low, New York embraces it all: in-your-face rock shows at Williamsburg dives, lavish opera productions at the Lincoln Center, and everything in between.
The fare for a subway or local bus ride is $2.50 USD. The fare for an express bus ride is $6 USD. You can also buy a 7-day transit pass for $30 USD. Most cabs around the city will cost around $15 USD. The MTA charges a $1 USD fee on each metro or bus pass.
